What will you remember about the past 18 months? What, if anything, did you learn from it? Does it matter anyways? Is there harm in an excess of self critical examination?
"The unexamined life is not worth living" is a statement apparently uttered by ancient Greek philosopher Socrates at his trial for impiety and corrupting the youth of Athens, for which he was subsequently put to death.
The Unexamined Life is an exhibition of paintings, based on photographs and 3d scans mostly taken within a 5km radius. The paintings were made while thinking about surface pleasures, and detail as a form of generosity. They help me remember what I was doing.
"The Unexamined Life throbbing with voices and bass under its ceaseless tilted neon bottle."
The Unexamined Life is a fictional Boston bar in the novel Infinite Jest by David Foster Wallace. It is the only location held in common by the story's mirror protagonists.
"They say that the left side of the brain
Controls the right
They say that right side
Has to work hard all night
Maybe I think too much for my own good
Some people say so
Other people say, “No no
That fact is
You don’t think as much as you could”"
Beidh taispeántas nua á chur ar siúl agam anseo i nGaillimh i @engageartstudios ag deireadh na míosa. Ceann gearr a mbéas ann, ó an 28ú Iúil go dtí an 31ú Iúil, ach tá mé ag siúl go mór leis an seans chun ealaín nua a chur amach in áit poiblí arís. Níos mó eolas le teacht!
Cad a chuimhneoidh tú faoi na 18 mí seo caite? Cad a d’fhoghlaim tú uaidh, má d'fhoghlaim tú aon rud? Nach cuma faoi? An bhfuil dochar ag baint le an iomarca scrúdú féinchriticiúil?
"The unexamined life is not worth living" is ráiteas é a deirtear gur dúirt an fealsamh ársa Gréagach Socrates, ag a thriail as mígheanas agus truailliú a dhéanamh ar óige na hAithne, ar cuireadh chun báis é ina dhiaidh sin.
Taispeántas de phictiúir é "The Unexamined Life", bunaithe ar ghrianghraif agus ar scananna 3d a tógadh laistigh de gha 5km den chuid is mó. Rinneadh na pictiúir agus mé ag smaoineamh ar phléisiúir dromchlaí, agus mionsonraí mar chineál flaithiúlachta. Cabhraíonn siad liom cuimhniú ar céard a raibh á dhéanamh agam ag an am.
"The Unexamined Life throbbing with voices and bass under its ceaseless tilted neon bottle."
Beár ficseanúil i mBostún é The Unexamined Life san úrscéal Infinite Jest le David Foster Wallace. Is é an t-aon áit atá i gcoiteann ag an dhá príomhcharachtair san scéil.
