‘OSCAILTE’ 2014 was the second annual open studio day event which aimed to encourage the general public and recent art graduates alike to visit working artists’ studios in Galway City.

It was a chance to see first-hand the day-to-day activities of artists’ spaces and to meet the artists involved. This year’s participating studios were Engage Art Studios, Galway Arts Centre, Forge Clay Studios, 126 Artist-run Gallery, The Loft & Artspace Studios.
These six artists’ studios are situated across Galway City and cater to over fifty visual artists. Studio spaces are housed in various buildings ranging from city centre converted office space to a 19th Century old Cathedral building to commercial units in present day industrial estates. It is in these spaces that Galway artists create artworks that are shown locally, nationally and internationally in various galleries and art centres. OSCAILTE invited people to visit these spaces, talk to the artists and see how their work is produced.
The diverse group of artists working in these various studio spaces contribute hugely to the rich cultural life of Galway City.
